Stormwater Management

Fairlawn has a long-standing problem with managing surface water. Drive around parts of the city after a heavy storm or melt, and you’ll likely see many lawns that have been taken over by temporary (or not so temporary) ponds. In fact, you can often find ducks, mosquito larva, tadpoles, and other aquatic life where you might expect to see a lawn.

Strangely, the City of Fairlawn does not seem to to know where its storm sewers are – or if they exist.

In fact, the problem is so prevalent, that the city has a program set up to provide a matching grant to homeowners who build their own water mitigation systems. Think about that — the city is incapable of providing basic infrastructure, and has offloaded its responsibility to its residents.
